  • Desiring guidance from the Holy Spirit while dismissing the very scriptures God inspired is the easiest way to quench the Spirit (see 1 Thessalonians 5:19).


  • The gospel is meant to transform people, not encourage them to remain sinners (see Romans 6:1-6).


  • Baptism doesn’t change a person - repentance does (see Acts 3:19).


  • We need to do less assuming by the scriptures and more proving by the scriptures (see Acts 18:28).


  • If the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ won’t push a person to obey the gospel, nothing will (see 1 Corinthians 2:2).

  • Our lives may be all that some know of the Bible (see Matthew 5:16).


  • In company, guard your tongue; in solitude, guard your heart (see Proverbs 4:23).


  • We cannot do anything about our ancestors, but we can influence our descendants greatly (see Exodus 6). 


  • If a child is not taught to obey a parent who is visible, he will never learn to obey a Heavenly Father who is not clearly visible (see Ephesians 6:1).

  • Man's way leads to a hopeless end while God's way leads to an endless hope (see Proverbs 14:12).


  • Character is built by many small deeds, but can be lost in a single act (see Proverbs 10:9).


  • When God commands us to do something, we are wise to follow Jesus's example: always choose God's will over our own (see Matthew 26:36-46).


  • Actions speak louder than words; when words won't do, what will you do (see 1 John 3)?


  • It is easier to preach ten sermons than it is to live one (see Ephesians 4:1-3).  


  • Opportunity may knock once, but temptation bangs on the door forever (see 1 Peter 5:8).

  • A lot of kneeling will keep you in good standing (see Romans 14:11). 


  • Prejudice is a great time-saver, enabling us to form opinions without bothering to get the facts (see Matthew 7:1-5).


  • Bad habits are like a comfortable bed; easy to get into, but hard to get out of (see Colossians 3:8).  


  • When success turns a man’s head, it often leaves him looking in the wrong direction (see Genesis 40). 


  • We don’t change God’s message; His message changes us (see 2 Timothy 4:3-4).


  • If you are struggling with something, talk to God about it; His phone lines are active 24/7 (see Romans 12:12).


  • God calls us daily to serve him, but we often let His calls go straight to voicemail (see Deuteronomy 28:2).


  • Even on the terrible days when nothing seems to go right, God's goodness and grace is still there - can you find it (see Ecclesiastes 7:14)?

  

  • Exercise daily: walk with the Lord (see Micah 6:8).  


  • Wisdom has two parts: having a lot to say and not saying it (see Proverbs 29:11).  


  • Nothing else ruins the truth like stretching it (see Proverbs 12:22).


  • Even when we - like Jonah - run from the Lord, we - like Jonah - cannot escape Him (see Jonah 1).


  • Truth is not always popular, but it is always right (see John 15).


  • Collapse in the Christian life is rarely a blowout - it's usually a slow leak (see Revelation 2:1-6).


  • A sermon that pricks our heart or conscience must have some good points (see Acts 2).


  • To be angry with a weak man is proof you are not very strong yourself (see Ecclesiastes 7:9).


  • It is better to be despised for doing right than praised for doing wrong (see John 12:42-43).


  • Following the Lord's example means we practice what we preach (see 1 Corinthians 11:1).

  • We will be happier if we others bits of our hearts rather than pieces of our minds (see Ephesians 4:32).


  • One who always finds fault seldom finds anything else (see John 8:1-11).


  • You are the light of the world, so don't forget to pay the electric bill (see Matthew 5:14-16)!


  • When we fill our stomachs with food at the dinner table, we should also try filling our hearts with gratitude (see Acts 27:33-36).


  • Church members are like cars - they start missing before they quit (see Hebrews 10:24-25).
